Ronaldo scores on second Man Utd debut - 12 years after his last goal for Red Devils

The Portuguese gave the Old Trafford faithful what they had come to see by finding the target twice against Newcastle as the hosts ran out 4-1 winners

Cristiano Ronaldo had to go back to Manchester United by only one half of football, with the Portuguese superstar scored double for the club at his second debut.

The five-time Gold Balloon winner against Newcastle seemed to be a frustrating 45-minute opening, but Old Trafford erupted at stopping time when the impasse was broken.

The vast majority of those present saw a prodigal son return there, and when he gave the masses his desire, he was not disappointed.

How did Ronaldo's goal come about?
The 36-year-old, who was handed a started berth by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer , took a while to get his eye back in after 12 years away from a Premier League stage.
He passed a couple of chances at first with a wild swing with an ironic cheer and a knowledgeable smile from United's No.7 on his left foot.

In the final stages of the first half, he was however to show that he didn't lose a touch before the finish.
Mason Greenwood drifted inside the right flank and took the slightest turning shot. That was good enough to put Freddie Woodman, the Newcastle keeper, off the box and he could only throw a ball into Ronaldo's foot.

When was Ronaldo's last Premier League goal?

Ronaldo hit 84 Premier League goals for United during his first stint with the club.

The last of those came in a derby date with Manchester City on May 10, 2009.

How was the second goal for Ronaldo?

Ronaldo was - as is often the case - the man to step up, as Solskjaer's hero looked for a day on which a wave of optimism flowed from the stands.

He was given a second hand in the 62nd minute by Woodman when he and the rest of his teammates took care of his second game. Luke Shaw sent Ronaldo to race on target, bringing him into the area with a perfectly weighted pass.

He fired the ball between Woodman's legs and back of the net with his left boot and fired the target.
